AhlulBayt News Agency: While Israeli officials claim that Hamas is facing unprecedented pressure, analysts in Israeli media suggest otherwise, stating that Hamas continues to resist and has shown no signs of collapse or surrender.
Avi Issacharoff, an analyst for Yedioth Ahronoth, responded to Hamas’s latest reply to US envoy Steve Witkoff’s ceasefire proposal, saying that contrary to Israeli assertions, Hamas remains intact and unwilling to surrender or hand over its weapons. Similarly, Asaf Meidani, another analyst for the same newspaper, described Israel’s internal situation as fragile, highlighting its inability to withstand further months of deadlock in military operations, reconstruction, domestic politics, and Western diplomatic pressure.
He added that these challenges are further exacerbated by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s singular focus on preserving his political position.
This analysis comes amid an ongoing stalemate in ceasefire negotiations between Hamas and Israel, with US mediation yielding no breakthrough. Hamas’s response to the latest proposal reaffirmed its key demands for a permanent ceasefire and the lifting of the blockade—conditions Tel Aviv has so far refused to accept.
On Saturday evening, Hamas confirmed it had officially responded to Witkoff’s ceasefire proposal, but the US envoy dismissed the reply as “totally unacceptable,” claiming it had set negotiations backward. However, Hamas denied rejecting the agreement, asserting that its response remained within the framework of previous discussions, while Israel submitted a counter-response contrary to the initial terms.
In an official statement, Hamas accused Witkoff of bias and failing to uphold the neutrality expected of a mediator.
